Description of the genome query for

Intergenic distances

Note that the first locus in a replicon does not display its distance to the previous ORF, even in circular genomes. This will eventually be fixed.

Example:

Select a genome, click Submit, and the answer is yours!

Discussion:

Note that some genomes appear to be "overannotated", i.e., possible though conflicting ORFs were reported as being potential genes; this is seen by the presence of many large negative intergenic distances. Other genomes may be underannotated, where conflicts might have been arbitrarily resolved by excluding one of the candidates; this is seen by the absence of large negative intergenic distances. Since different groups value liberalism and conservatism to different degrees, the genomes are not all annotated to the same standards. It is a goal of NeuroGadgets Inc. to implement (eventually) an alternative, automated system that will provide a constantly-updated and standardized annotation of each genome.
